Finished putting my book together a few nights ago, which has been my main focus lately as well as working on a Peach Project animation with two other people, which is based on Journey to the West. The book went through a few iterations before I settled on a design I liked..can't wait to see it! Here's a sample page from the book:

I've been experimenting with a coloring style I dabbled on a year ago again - a pseudo-lineless look. Its a challenge for sure, but i'm starting to really like how it looks.

Went back and added a little to Jove..it looks more painterly! Which makes me happy. Been trying to play with photoshop coloring more too. Usually I just use photoshop for detail work.

Its been a while since my last update, but thats what graduation prep does to you. I have been able to sneak some sketches in here and there and work a little bit on one of my many projects, but nothing necessarily complete at the moment. How was everyone's spring? I spent mine with a friend in California, and had an absolute blast! Fell in love with north Cali, can't wait to go back again. A few sketches were gleaned from my trip there, i'll post a few here.

We went to the Winchester mystery house, folsom prison, and a crazy arcade put put place. Winchester was good, only because we snuck around like jerks - the fact that it is 'repainted' and done up pretty kind of takes away from the mysterious air, and being dumped in the gift shop was kind of annoying. Makes it almost tourist-trapish, you know?

Work work, study study! Look at all thoooose reference books.

Working on laying out several comics tonight..feeling rather productive. I have a reworked Sheik&Sheba (the page I had before just didnt satisfy me, so I'm trying something different), thumbnailing a Songbird short storybook style thing and sketching out a collab thingy .

How has everyone's new years been? Mine has been satisfying enough. Winding down to that ever fearful moment of graduation - aahh! Making me a little (a lot) nervous. Working a lot on projects but it never feels like enough! Attempting to put together a short animation entry for a CG conference.

I will be doing a lot of traveling this year! So far my plans are taking me to..

Hellaux all you happy people! I sorely apologize for lack of updating, i've been working on my Sheik&Sheba animation and dealing with finals, so I have stopped existing not only on the internet but in the real world for a little bit too. After this week though, I shall have much more free time.

So I need some suggestions. I am trying to think of a good web domain name that will encompass both Songbird and Sheik&Sheba, as it will host both as I work on them. I'm having a heck of a time thinking of a good name. Any ideas?

Also celebrated an early birthday in true retro fashion - at a 1920s style speakeasy! Complete with passwords, peeping holes in doors, house rules and 1920s style drinks! No, I didn't get a bunnyhug. ;)

Alley Cats and Songbirds

Hello folks! Been almost a month since my last update, and for that I severely apologize. Been keeping busy with arting, prepping for gallery shows, schoolwork and life in general. At least i've been keeping busy though yes? :)
Managed to do my first Songbird test page, mostly to feel out the aesthetic style, which changed -drastically- from my first mock up. I wanted it to be visually different from Sheik&Sheba though and I think it has a good departure from that comic now, though i'm going to refine it more so its similar in coloring to my Charlie Chaplin picture in previous posts.

I've been working on animating the first Sheik&Sheba comic. This is rough still, and needs some more detailing and work - especially with Matt yelling, but its all part of the process. :)

Meet 'Lute'. He is a terrible flirt. He will be in the next Sheik&Sheba comic. This is an unfinished panel from it. Be fearful.

This is Pocket. He was recently seen helping to mascot the convention Shadocon in a feminine form. He likes doin' stuff!

Hello you lovely people! Been working diligently in my classes so there hasn't been a lot of free time, but that does not mean there has not been plenty of arting! Here I finally managed to do the first test page comic for Sheik&Sheba and I'm partially done with the Songbird test page as well. Hooray!

I'm a 20's fangirl, and as such I've been fascinated with swing dancing for some time. I know a little, but not nearly as much as I would like. Its funny, a lot of the aerials in swing dancing are similar to moves in our fight choreography for the shows. Shouldn't be TOO hard to adapt to, right?

So far they seem fine enough, i've only had the first two. Cinematic Tech seems more like a film history class, and contemporary/post modern art just tickles my art history love.

Art-wise..not much personal stuff, mostly commissions. Here they are!

One of the few pictures I got to pump out for myself. Mostly a doodle, but I really need to work on placing characters in environments. Over all, I am not unhappy with it. Fair games are rigged.

Twins! I enjoyed giving the outfits a Thai flair (I may be somewhat biased), and tonfa are just fun. Commisshy.

This became an exercise in interaction - admittedly I don't work a lot with character interaction. Commission for someone online.

Armor is a pain in the butt. Particularly the gauntlets, but I like how the lighting turned out on it. Commission for someone online.

Been on a slight WWII era kick lately, which is just as well since I've been developing my research paper over the last year on WWII propaganda and animation. Just means more study time! While collecting inspiration for drawing.

Evolve was great fun and very informative. I attended workshops and panels by Jason Ryan (Dreamworks), Kekai Kotaki (NCSoft), Fausto de Martini (Blizzard), Mark Mencher, and met some great people. Kekai even gave me a review - and didn't sugar coat, which I appreciate. Overall, it wasn't bad, but certainly being surrounded by so many people just fueled my determination more. At the same time, it just made me realize more how hard it will be to get into the industry I want as a 2d sort of girl. Terrifying, really. It won't stop me from trying, but one can't help but feel intimidated and wary. It forced me to step back, evaluate myself, and reorganize my priorities. I have a long way to go and a lot to learn yet before I'm getting anywhere! But that is the wonder of learning - it is never ending.

I have also been Livestreaming some video tutorials lately per request. I've been helping some people with coloring, lining, and general tips as well as I can and so far its been great fun. Its really rewarding to be able to teach someone else. You can find me occasionally at http://www.livestream.com/digitalcolor . My Livestreams are rather random but you can always look at the video library for old stuff.

Busy busy busy. Life going nuts while a work load pours in from schooling. Haven't gotten a lot of time to draw anything nice as a result (despite art school, go figure) so mainly i've been doing little character portraits because they're easy. Mostly, they're serving as more coloring exercise for me. Can't get enough of that coloring! Though I really want to practice my environment work and character design..sigh.

I'll be heading over to the EvolveCG conference in Ft. Lauderdale ( http://evolve3d.net/ ). Thankfully, because of the good graces of my most awesome sister, my ticket was paid for by her - otherwise I wouldn't have been able to go! At least without giving up some fooding. Hoping to build a sort of network there and possibly figure out what i'm doing for internships. It'll also just be a wonderful experience in general. Manny Fragelus has been an awesome inspiration for going. :)

So, potentially good news. I might have an internship at an animation studio in Tampa. Not gonna say too much else in case it doesn't happen..I'd hate to get my hopes up and be disappointed. But, I will cross my fingers!

A quickie of my undead jester boy. I'm trying to practice a bit with colored lines. It has more of an 'animated' look to it that I like.

My rendition of Princess Iron Fan from the Journey to the West stories. I want to try and do one of each main character. Sun Wukong was my hero growing up, so this project will be my homage. Eff superman, its all about the monkey king.

Went to a presentation with Manny Fragelus (Dreamworks modeler) that was rather eye opening and delightfully enlightening! I really need to step up my game, and will! It was nice to have a speaker like that come to our school, I think it really made a difference. Now I only wish I could go to the Evolve 3d conference! Only bad thing is I'm not a 3d person, so I couldn't get an in-depth review as all of my good works are 2d. Le sigh!

What a day. Yesterday I had a gallery show with a few other people at the International Boba House. It was themed 'Monsters'. To say simply - everything that could possibly go wrong trying to get my pictures to this show happened. I'm just happy to bask in loafing right now. At least its a lovely day outside! No rain like the last few weeks.

I've been bad and haven't actually done a lot of arting this week unfortunately. I'll just have to pump out some things next week to make up for it! For now, here is a grab bag of old stuff.

An old, retired character of mine named Dai.

I am fascinated with the Paduang tribe of Thailand and their neck rings. There is something otherwordly and lovely about them. I like to doodle them occasionally.

Meet Penny Penfeather. She collects pens and sells cookies. She is sort of a peahen girl thing. She is also a great con artist (or so she thinks).

A maquette I made of a friend's character...sort of. A really messed up creepy version of her character, more like. Made of sculpey and flowers and stuff.

This is probably the only 3d piece I really am satisfied with. Simple concept, but I think its strong enough. Rendered in 3ds max.

A project i'm working on with some friends called 'Fairytales'. Surprise surprise, silhouettes. I'll give you one guess who's idea that was.
The first and last window were made by me, along with the layout and 'window' templates. The second, (to be) third, and fourth windows are collaborations done by my friends. Can't wait to finish it!

A quick perspective exercise with that good ol' undead jester. Not much else to report for this one. The eyes are fun.

Whats better then silhouettes? Silhouette MONSTERS. Something i'll probably be submitting to a show soon-ish. Its older work, but I still quite like it. The image was inspired by Stephen Crane's poem 'The Heart'.

This was fun. It was a speed-drawing set. All three I gave myself the time limit of 15 minutes with only two colors. I ran out of time with the last one as you can see, but it was great practice. I like the over all result for something so quick! I would go back and finish the last one but alas, my computer exploded and ate the psd file with it.

Tonight, I will give you many blue things!

'Maestro', a wraith like creature with spats. Because all cool things wear spats, says I. This came about after watching 'Ink', which I encourage you all to watch too.

The anonymity and sterile environment of hospitals and laboratories is a little intimidating.

A quick doodle for a friend. Simple but I like it.

This one is also for two friends, of their characters. The image is based on Owl City's 'The Bird and the Worm'. It was fun to do an underwater scene and challenging at the same time, as I hadn't done one before. The perspective is ridiculous but I like to think it works out still. In retrospect I might have liked a little more contrast.

Another silhouette doodle. I do love silhouettes and blues.

An older silhouette drawing, with two shadows in the back..this was more a practice on making tree's from a tutorial but the image itself I like alot. Subtle colors are so delicious.

Not much else to say but...BZZZ!!!

The anatomy bugs me around the legs now that I look at this again. Its older, but I really like how the water turned out in the image, along with the upper torso. I may revisit this again later..

I'm too tired to think of something long to say. So...here are some drawings!

This came as an experiment mostly, a 'speedpaint' if you would, mostly in an effort to work on backgrounds a bit more. I have a thing about snow, too. Something about it, along with water, is just fun to paint. So it'll be a recurring thing you'll see i'm sure. I'm mostly pleased with how it came out.

My character teaching her 'babies' how to fly. I think its going well for them.

A gift for a friend. I struggled a bit with the lighting of a night time scene, without making it indiscernible in the 'dark'. Not entirely satisfied with the night colors but it works for now. Also learned how to make cobblestones pretty easily in photoshop this way, hurray!

This one was a quickie, but I enjoy the mood of it. I also enjoy working in blues, if you can't tell. A product of a very moody evening in the company of my tablet and computer. Mm. Water.

A Taste of May

Originally I was going to upload a few older works but having just finished this last night, I decided what the heck! Might as well kick off with something new. This is actually an older doodle from a few years ago I only just now decided to complete. I was never satisfied with my coloring job back then, but this I at least like the turn out of.

Its been a while since i've drawn a finished Mister Mosquito - that is the green man in the picture. As with most digital stuff, it was done in Painter 7. Alot of colors I use posess a certain personal symbology to them out of habit. What do greens and pinks mean to you?
